Cold Wax Painting Article

14/01/23

I was recently asked to write an article about my experiences of cold wax painting by Hannah Ivory Baker who owns Highgate Art. I’ve worked with this wonderful medium for 6 years now and love the way I can build luminosity and textures, quickly and easily and how organic and tactile the end results can be.

‘Many artists use Cold Wax Medium to create abstract paintings. This is because the wax lends itself well to a process-driven approach, where textures and layers can be built up easily and quickly. The wax has a great translucent quality that allows light to pass through and reveal previous layers. A nice benefit to adding wax to paint is that it allows the paint to spread easily and speeds up its drying time. Directly applying layers, combined with digging into previous ones can result in paintings that evoke a sense of history and mystery’

You can read the whole article by clicking here.

If you’ve read the article and would like to learn more about cold wax painting, my next in person workshop is taking place April 22nd -23rd and currently has 3 places left. To find out more and to book please visit the workshop section of my website here
