Bio

I am a contemporary abstract painter based in Cornwall, England, creating expressive, atmospheric works inspired by colour, emotion and Cornwalls ever-changing landscape.

I trained at the University of Birmingham, graduating with a BA in Performing & Visual Arts, before completing an MA in Fine Art at Falmouth University. My work has been exhibited extensively throughout the UK, including exhibitions at Tate Modern and Tate St Ives, and I am currently represented by several UK galleries. Alongside my studio practice, I am an experienced art educator with over 15 years of teaching experience.

Artist’s Statement

'My lyrical paintings are like visual poems, spoken through constructs of memories, emotions and indirect references to place. These influences are not overt but are located on the edge of consciousness, gradually seeping in as the work evolves.

I paint intuitively in a fluid manner, building up and scraping back layers of oil paint, cold wax, collage and pigments to create a palimpsest of lines, colours and textures that reveal traces of the work’s history.

My paintings are sensory and evocative, the end result of looking, thinking and feeling. They aim to reveal things that aren’t immediately visible and often can’t be put into words. Overall, I hope my work offers a space for contemplation and reflection, one in which the viewer can momentarily loose themselves in their visual and physical presence’.
