Exploring Colour - March 10th 2026
A vibrant and creative workshop for anyone who would like to learn more about colour and how it can be used more intuitively.
Do you always use the same colour palette in your paintings? Are you reluctant to explore new colour combinations or not sure where to start? This workshop will focus exclusively on colour, nurturing play to discover new approaches and colour combinations.
Learn how to mix colours with accuracy and confidence and which pallets resonate most with you. We will also explore how colours are informed by other colours and how they affect one another when placed together.
The workshop will also include fun exercises in combining and contrasting colours and how to gather colour inspiration from the natural world as well as books and objects.
Participants will work with acrylic, collage and still life objets during the workshop and will leave with a small series of colour studies and colour swatches which will inspire future work.
Experience
The workshop is ideal for both beginners and more experienced artists who are looking to find ways of working with colour more intuitively. This workshop would suit painters, but also illustrators, printmakers, textile artists etc.
Teaching Experience
I hold a full PGCE and have been delivering workshops for over 15 years. I have been a visiting lecturer at Falmouth University and regularly teach at Tate St Ives and The St Ives School of Painting. I also have a BA arts degree and completed my MA in fine art in 2013.

Testimonials
Liked the demonstrations- lots of ideas to think about and try. Think the workshop has helped me to relax and enjoy art making. I liked the whole concept of experimenting and playing - simplified the process for me. Thorough enjoyed it and it has given me plenty to think about going forward on my art journey.
I just loved the way Laura made it seem so easy and uncomplicated - I’m hoping this will give me the freedom to try to experiment more and to just enjoy making art and being more open and expressive without worrying about the finished product.
The mix of practical work with information about materials and techniques was great. Lots of advice about possible approaches and ways of thinking about work.
