Art Residency at Morgans Gallery

27/01/22

For the past 2 weeks I’ve been working at Morgans in Falmouth, using the gallery as a studio whilst it’s closed for winter. Being in a new space, filled with beautiful details and natural light has been the best way to start 2022 as I feel so inspired and have become completely immersed in painting, in a way that I have’t been for a little while.

Working in a different environment always impacts my work and fills my head with new ideas and the history, light and textures of the building are all feeding into my new collection. I’m also relishing the amount of space I have as I can step back as far as I need, to see what I’ve done and where my brush should next take me. Because of the vast room, I’m also able to work on a larger scale than I ever have previously and am also able to work on multiple canvases at once, adding layers of paint & mixed media, whilst making connections between them.

Some of the paintings I am creating will be shown at the gallery in the Spring and I like the idea of them being directly inspired by the space in which they were made. I will be working here until the end of February and am excited to see whats going to develop over the next few weeks as this collection grows and deepens.
